This could not be further from the truth. After exactly 2024 tickets spent and almost 400 villagers in the game to find if the game was truly random in their villager selection you would see each villager appear about 5 times. Now the big burning question, which are the most common villagers to find on a tour and which are the rarest (spoiler alert- not Raymond). Crazy right? The rest of the odds for each species can be seen below with the red line representing what you would expect the odds for each one to be and the blue line representing what they actually are. That gives you a lower chance of finding any of the 23 cats than it does one of the 3 octopus. Your actual chances of running into any of the cats is half that at just under 3%. On the other hand take cats, with 23 different cats in the game you would expect to have a nearly 6% chance of finding one on an island but that’s wrong to. Those odds may not sound great but when there are 34 different species in the game it’s actually pretty good.
Octopus like Octavian, Marina and Zucker are actually more favored in the game with a nearly 3% chance of spotting one on any given island. 77% of finding one on an island tour right? Wrong. Take the octopus for example, there are only 3 in the game so you would think that you have a 3/391 chance or. Starting with species there are clear examples of which species the game favors more than others. One thing is certain though, that is that the game favors certain species, personalities and villagers much more than others and much more than what you would expect just looking how many of a certain species or type are in the game. You are also no more likely to find a certain villager on one day of the week over any other. I want to start by saying that no, there are no villager sets, none that are consistent or promising which is very disappointing.
